I reviewed my 2019 annual goals, checked the status of each one, and updated my goals.
I came up with a reduced subset of goals, three goals that I think will make a difference in my life.
Now I need to assess whether these goals still align with the current stage and state of my life.
There are three things that matter most to me right now. They are related to career, health and this blog.
This year I satisfied contract requirements to take and pass a postgraduate certificate in university teaching and lessening. The next step is to increase my publication rate to cross the bar and apply for the associate professor equivalent. So, I need to set up my life for a productive research career by (i) automating teaching as far as possible, and (ii) refining my research process and becoming more efficient in producing manuscripts.
My husband and I would like to start a family. I had a miscarriage last year and we are still getting over it. My chances of getting pregnant will increase with losing some weight. I need boundaries on my work to reduce stress and promote well-being. I want my children, when I do have them, to have a mother who could manage her stress and job and be able to enjoy life with them.
Losing weight will also help my appearance and some of the outcomes I want in my job that are related to promoting my research via videos.
Personally, I also want to spend some more time with my parents while they are still sound in mind and alive and with meet up with new friends.
This blog is about my journey to accomplishing my goals. I want to write more but tailor it to you, my readers. Writing to help others is very much aligned with who I am. My research is geared towards solving environmental problems and I teach physics to students who are mostly mathematically challenged.
I have started to realize that I need to practice self-care more often. This blog is one aspect of my self-care. But for now, the self-care is for a healthy body and state of mind.
By doing this thinking, I believe that my revised goals are aligned with my current stage and state of life. So my revised goals remains at:
- Hit the 160 lbs weight target,
- Finalize two research papers for publication (not submission), and
- Publish 10 more posts on this site to get up to 44 posts and an additional 10 posts to 54 posts (twice the number of posts from last year).
