We accummulate things because we just cannot resist a good bargain.
But bargain deals make you spend money on things you don’t need and the more bargain items you have the more storage space you need to keep them good for use in the future. Your space gets cluttered and you have to spend time maintaining those things.
Instead, try shifting how you think about bargain items.
So-called bargain items are there to create scarcity and to make you buy.
Do you notice how some places have bargain deals year round? You can take away two things from this observation. First, you do not need to stock up on too many bargains because they are offered at all times.
Secondly, the bargain is not really a bargain. Bulk goods stores use the “buy 3 for the price of 2” as a marketing technique to catch your attention. Sellers still make a profit of bargain items. It looks like a bargain to you but oftentimes the bargain goods helps to loosen your grip on your wallet. You end up spending on other items you may never need because you got a bargain elsewhere.
Resisting a bargain is hard. One tactic that you can use is to containerize your goods. If the container is filled then you do not need to purchase new items.
If you feel as though you will run out of goods then make sure you have two of the same item. You can use the second one while you replace the first when it is done.
If you are overflowing with bargain items think about how crowded and suffocating your space feels. Then, think about how you want your space to breathe and better serve you.
Another tactic to help you stop buying bargain items is to consider if you really want to spend your hard earned cash on things you do not need immediately or in the near future. Use this tactic on items that has an unlimited container such as ebooks. Maybe you can invest the unspent cash which could help you to slowly grow your money.
Lastly, do a self-analysis to figure out why you like to purchase bargains even if you do not need the items. Sometimes you might buy bargain items because you feel that you deserve new things. Maybe you have worked hard to get to where you are and you believe you are rewarding your hard work with these purchases.
If you find it difficult to release items, think of how your clutter will make others feel. If you were to suddenly pass, would your bargain items be a burden to your loved ones?
Your wallet and mind will thank you if you simplify and cut down on your bargain purchases.
